Robert John Bradley “Bob”

Rochester:  Bob passed in Peace, from being held in the loving arms of his family, to the arms of his Lord on December 29th. Predeceased by cherished siblings, Howard, Joan, Doris & Richard. Survived by his treasured wife of 51 years, Ann Marie; beloved children, Audrey Shaughnessy, Amy (Daryl) Bowker, H. Robert (Carly) Bradley; adored grandchildren, Christopher, Anna & Jack (father, Stephen), Norah, Sophie & Quinn. Also survived by dearest brothers, Deacon Donald Bradley, Rev. Msgr. Edward Bradley, many loved nieces and nephews, innumerable friends and colleagues from the track and cross-country community and his McQuaid Jesuit family.

Bob was born in Jersey City, NJ, the third of seven children in a devout, Catholic family and attended St. Peter’s Prep, a Jesuit HS. In 1951, he was drafted into the US Army, but chose to enlist in the US Marine Corp, serving a three-year term including a tour in Korea. He then attended Fordham University, earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in English Literature. In 1960, he moved to Rochester to teach at McQuaid Jesuit High School. Over his 46-year tenure there, he taught English, Latin and coached a total of 91 seasons of Cross Country, Indoor & Outdoor Track. His teams won 19 Sectional Championships and 7 New York State Championships. In 1965, he founded the McQuaid Invitational, now the largest high school cross country meet in the nation. After his retirement in 2006, he established the Sienna Catholic Academy cross country program, coaching for another 8 seasons.

Early in his career, during mass in the McQuaid Chapel, he was introduced to the love of his life, Ann Marie. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed sharing his love of literature, poetry and classical music with his family, students and friends. Throughout his life, Bob has been a constant example of faith, kindness, strength and moral character.
