Obituary of Thomas Jay Erdman

Passed away October 23, 2019 at the age of 94. 

Born on May 4, 1925 in Labanon, PA to the late Ira Erdman and Erda McFadden. Predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 67 years, Alice; daughter, Cathy Erdman. Survived by sons, Tom Erdman, John McCarthy Erdman (Sylvia Neill); daughter, Anne Erdman; granddaughter, Bridget Reid Erdman; grandsons, Greg Lord, Tim (Lisa) Erdman, Andy Erdman (Lindsey Cody), Kevin McCarthy Erdman; great grandchildren, Alexander Erdman, Christopher Erdman and Heidi Erdman-Cody; sisters-in-law, Mary McCarthy, Eileen McCarthy; extended family and friends; and Cathy’s dog, Finn.

Tom graduated from Canandaigua Academy in 1942. There he was very active in the 1942 class “SPOF," Society for the Preservation of Old Time Friendships. In 1954 he graduated from the University of Rochester with a degree in Business Administration.

In February 1943 he joined the USMC, 4th Marine Division, and served his country till December 1945. He served during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific battles which included, Kwajalein Atoll, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima.

Tom was an avid golfer having gotten 3 holes in one. In 1981 he won the Stafford Invitational. He was the President for Dealer Sales Agency, Inc. And he loved his Buick Electras. Tom and Alice loved to dance. They danced miles and miles to Glenn Miller's "In the Mood".

Family and friends are invited to Thomas' Burial with Military Honors on SUNDAY, November 10, at 11 AM at St. Patrick Cemetery (Victor, NY). A Memorial Service to follow at American Legion Post 34 Shortsville, NY (1513 Palmyra Street) at 12:30 PM. Reception to follow at the Legion.

The family would like to thank the Canandaigua VA Home Based Primary Care and the Ontario-Yates Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Tom.
