Obituary of Richard M. Bottorf Jr.

Bottorf, Richard M. Jr. Victor, NY Richard M. Bottorf Jr. died suddenly on February 9, 2011 at Thompson Hospital. Born November 20, 1934 in Belfonte PA. He was the son of the late Richard M. (former mayor of Canandaigua 1958-59) & Lorraine Bottorf. He is survived by his beloved wife Sara Lee (a.k.a. Sally), children Lori Petrie (Jeffrey), and Jennifer Lyons (Robert); his treasured grandchildren Evan Lyons, William Lyons, Sydney Petrie, Jay Petrie, Jordan Petrie, and Michelle Petrie Piure; his sister Georgiana Thompson (niece, Erin Thompson VanDamme), his brother Frank Bottorf (Evelyne & his God son Richard F. Bottorf), and his dog Spot. He is also survived by his much-loved nieces and nephews. Dick enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, being at his cottage on Canandaigua Lake, and most-of-all spending time with his grandchildren. Dick worked for Gannett Newspapers where he was Publisher of the Burlington Free Press (VT) and Regional Vice President from 1976 - 1986, VP of Operations at Gannett Corporate Headquarters (VA) from 1986-1990, and Publisher of the Norwich Bulletin (CT) from 1990 - 1994. He retired and came back to his hometown of Canandaigua to be near his children. Dick received his BS in Accounting from Miami University, Oxford, OH in 1958 and his Masters of Business Administration from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1973. Over the years he was active in Kiwanis, Rotary, and the Lions Club. Dick served on the Board of Directors at Thompson Hospital and at TruSmart Technologies. He was an excellent golfer, a stamp collector, and he was a member of the Clifton Springs Country Club. Dick is a man of kindness, gentleness, and integrity. He could put a new set of brakes on any car! He loved hamburgers, french fries, and peanuts-in-the shell. He will always be remembered for his kind face and happy smile. He was a great friend and a wonderful grandfather. He will be sadly missed. Friends and family may call on Monday, February 14 from 3:00 - 6:00 PM at Lucey-Van Voorhis Funeral Home, 301 West Main Street, Victor, NY. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service on Tuesday, February 15 at 11:00 AM at Victor United Methodist Church, 106 East Main St., Victor, NY.
