Obituary of Norman K. Smith

Smith, Norman, K. Victor: August 7, 2011 at age 84, at home following many years of heart disease. He is predeceased by his parents, Florence Kent Smith and Robert Francis Smith, and his sister, Roberta Chenoweth. He is survived by his wife, Linda, and his children Elissa (Rob) Edlund of Utah, Melanie Matthews of Utah, Norman K. Smith II (Patricia) of CT and Simon T. Smith (Ellen) of SC; 17 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; his sister, Barbara (Bob) Denhoff of Waterloo and his sister-in-law, Mary (Don) Moulton of Greenwich; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Born in Rochester, NY, his family moved to Lansing, NY where he grew up. He served in the Air Force in WW II as an airplane and engine mechanic. He married Marilyn Jamison in 1950 with whom he raised three children. Norm was a graduate of SUNY Cortland and had many and varied occupations which included farming, teaching and construction supervision. He retired from CDS where he worked with disabled adults. He was a 25-yr. member of the First Presbyterian Church in Victor where he served as an elder and a deacon. He was a member of Victor Hiking Trails, the Colored Pencil Club and built homes for Habitat for Humanity many years. He enjoyed camping, traveling, reading and drawing. His family and friends will remember him with joy and thanksgiving for a life well-lived. Friends may call Friday 4-7 at the Lucey-VanVoorhis Funeral Home, 301 West Main Street Victor. A celebration of Norm's life will be held Saturday at 11 o'clock at First Presbyterian Church, Victor. Gifts in Norman's memory may be directed to the permanent fund at First Presbyterian Church, 70 East Main St., Victor, NY 14564.
