John W. DeRock, age 68, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at his home in Canandaigua, NY on September 3, 2018.  John was born and raised in Belfast, NY and spent most of his adult life in Rochester, NY before enjoying the Florida sun.  John battled a long term illness.

John is survived by his loving wife, Judy, of 48 years and cherished daughters Heather (Jason) Champine of Rochester, MI and Kirstine (Christian) Nikodem of Lima, NY.  He also leaves behind his four adoring grandchildren, Zoe and Zander Champine and Anna and Margaret Nikodem, who will miss him greatly.  Also, brothers David(Gail) DeRock, Michael (Moira) DeRock and sister Michele (John) Dybalski along with many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. John was preceded by his parents, Charles and Betty DeRock and brothers Gary (Sue) and Terry DeRock and niece Diann.
John proudly served in the United Stated Army as a military Policeman.  He was stationed in South Carolina and Germany during The Vietnam war. He was a graduate from the University of Rochester earning a degree in Optical engineering.  He was employed many years at Eastman Kodak and ITT specializing in space systems.

John had a great love of music across genres from classical to bluegrass.  He played the piano, guitar, and had a wonderful voice.  We have wonderful memories of John, surrounded by friends and family, joining him in song around the piano.  He was an inspiration to many.

John was loved  by all.  His kindness, sense of humor, and loving spirit touched many.
